Gr gr... my smartphone. Once again, Google Fit is telling me that I reached my daily goals: 39 cardio points and 11.000 steps. At first I smile, but then I think about how easy it is nowadays to be told how good we are, and to believe it. A society that convinces us that we need compliments from a machine to boost our already big self esteem…, where will it take us?
On the other hand, when we make mistakes, we are not able to accept fault. Instead we try to find ways to make our version of the truth legit. I remember listening to some teachers talk about not being allowed to give bad marks by the parents of the children themselves. How did we get here?
Being born at the end of the eighties, I saw this change happening in front of my eyes. I am happy to say that my parents taught me to pick myself up after a fall, and to fight to improve myself.
I’m worried by the direction our society has taken. Every generation needs those down-to-earth, hard-working people who will create value for society. Such people must be thoughtful and respectful for themselves and for the others, with an eco-sustainable approach to life now more than ever.
